Micro-commission with OperaUpClose and ArtfulScribe

OperaUpClose and ArtfulScribe are excited to announce a new collaborative project supporting writers, poets and spoken word artists to develop work in new and refreshing ways.

Drawing upon both organisations’ skills and experience in their respective artforms, we are trialling new creative approaches by offering five micro-commissions, enabling selected writers to join the Research & Development for OperaUpClose’s radically reimagined version of Puccini’s comic opera, Gianni Schicchi (with a new alternative title Where There’s A Will), in November 2024 at MAST Mayflower Studios.

DETAILS

Each commission is supported by a payment of £375, inclusive of travel and other costs.

APPLICATION

To apply, please email matt@artfulscribe.co.uk with an Expression of Interest, detailing why this opportunity is important to you at this particular stage of your writing career, as well as giving any relevant details about past experience.

Please let us know what we would be missing out on if we didn’t select you at this stage of the application process.

Deadline: Wednesday 25th September at midday, with interviews taking place on Wednesday 9th October via Zoom.

OperaUpClose and ArtfulScribe are equal opportunities and living wage employers. Our mutual aims are to create a diverse and inclusive working environment which reflects the communities and audiences we engage with. The recruitment process is open to all, and we are especially interested in hearing from candidates from the global majority, disabled, neurodivergent and working-class people.
